Baby sleeping help!? (:

Question

So my baby has been sleeping in a swing over night .. she loves the be propped up not laying flat. The only way I can get her to sleep.... I’ve tried transitioning slowly for naps I’m her crib and I noticed she gets startled jerking her arms up and it keeps waking her up. She doesn’t do this I’m the swing and sleeps great. How can I get this to stop? And her like to sleep flat? Cause eventually soon enough she’s going to have to.

Please do not continue to let your baby sleep in the swing especially overnight. That is very dangerous. Babies should be in a crib, alone and on their backs. If you discontinue using the swing for sleep the baby will get used to laying flat in their crib. They will just have to adjust. It might take some time because they aren’t use to it but it will be better for them and you. Most importantly they will be safe. Hope this helps you.

I would definitely start transitioning into a hands free swaddle like a sleep sack! It’s going to be a could of rough nights for baby to adjust to the startle reflux but it will get better and they will get use to it!

Do you swaddle her? Sounds like the startle reflex. My baby uses the love to dream swaddle. It’s not super tight and restricting, and her arms are up. But once they start to roll, you need to stop swaddling. So not sure it would be worth it for a month or two. Definitely safer to sleep on a flat surface though, so I would keep working on it!

You might consider getting a transitional swaddle that you can slowly get her used to sleeping with her arms out. There’s some decent priced ones on Amazon. I read your comment about being afraid of her rolling in her sleep, the thing is that once she can roll to her tummy in her sleep on her own, it’s okay to leave her like that because she has the muscle control to move herself if something is blocking her airway. Just make sure she is on a safe sleep surface: firm mattress, no pillows or blankets or stuffed animals, etc.
