Am I wrong to turn down guys who suggest the bar for a first date/meet up?

I feel like this is so common. I just want to say that I don't hate the bar...just not on the first date. I enjoy going to local breweries with friends/fam. I understand that alcohol calms people, but I just feel that it's tacky for a first date. I like a little effort. Nothing extravagant. I also don't love the idea of drinking with someone I barely know. I'd much rather go for a cup of coffee/tea at a cute, local cafe & then go for a walk. There are even these neat cafes around here that are part book store and another that's part record store. Idk I like things like that. One of my friends thinks that I should give the guys a chance because "that's the way things are now in the dating world", but idk I'm just not 100% comfortable drinking with a stranger. She suggested that I have a light drink.

If you decide to go, you do not have to drink. Also, if you want to give this guy a shot you could always suggest an alternative date. 🙂

It’s not wrong to want to do something else for a first date but I think it may be wrong for turning them down if they suggest that? Just say you’d rather do something else like coffee and I’m sure they would agree?

I think it’s a great first date. The atmosphere is casual and if you don’t know what to talk about there are plenty of weird peoples to people watch and comment on. my husband and I love having our dates there. Bar food is all shareable and you can learn a lot about someone by the drinks they take. 
I’m a mixologist and I see so many couples on first dates. 
Now also depends on the bar if it was a dirty hole in the wall I to would say no but a fun hip place you may be missing a lot of fun
Also note I’ve been sober for three years and still enjoy these dates.

I wouldn't go to a bar with a stranger. That'd be a hard no. If want to give the guy a chance suggest something that you are comfortable with. If he turns that down pass him by cause I think that'd mean he had motives for going to the bar.

I'm the same way. When I was doing online dating before I met my husband, I used to go straight to Skype to see the person face to face. The first date would be coffee at a diner...nothing fancy. If it went well, then I'd agree to go to dinner.
I used to straight up tell guys that these were my dating rules. Most were happy to have coffee rather than taking someone out to dinner/drinks where most girls didn't offer to split the bill.

I would suggest a different place rather than turning them down outright. You can go to bars and not drink and just enjoy the tapas and the atmosphere. Some of the most gorgeous terrace spots in my city are bars—you can buy tapas, smoothies and watch the sun set! But if you don’t any to go, you can always be upfront and suggest alternatives rather than just rejecting someone on that alone.
