UPDATE - 4 month old below the line

I took my 4 month old to the doctor for his vaccination and after he was weighed (5.2kg), I was told that he was below the weight he needed to be. The doctor seemed concerned and said to supplement him on formula. I took this advice with a grain of salt as my son never cries after a feed and always has full nappies. I decided that I will try to increase his feedings for a week and then take him back to the doctor to see if he’s gained any weight at all. I read on the national breastfeeding website that even if your doctor recommends formula supplementing, it’s always worth trying to give extra breastfeeds first, then resort to formula.

Wish me good luck that my son puts on any amount of weight at all this week. 🙏🏼

Today I had my appointment with the paediatric regarding my sons weight gain. He’s put on 190g since my last doctors appointment. She suggested offering purées once a day, then gradually increasing. She also didn’t suggest formula at all, unlike my doctor. She was happy with the weight gain thus far and thinks he will catch up slowly over the next few weeks. Thanks to all for the advice.
