Going on for a coffee day with a guy. Ask to split or offer to pay all?

I’m totally cool with splitting the bill or offering to pay. But I feel weird asking to split when a coffee is like $5 each (not expensive at all)

My first date with my husband, I offered to pay for it all & he refused and said he wanted to pay. So then I offered to at least pay for my half & he again refused. Next date was on me!

Splitting coffee sounds super awkward. I guess it’s fine if you don’t have 10 bucks, but one or the other should just buy for both.

You’re better than me. First date I went on with my now fiancé, I brought my friend along. To be fair, I had met him on tinder so I just wanted to be safe. He paid for ALL of our meals. I knew then he was the one 😍 he paid a few times after that too until I finally told him to let me pay for him once in a while & I did. Now we live together, have a fur baby and are engaged! 
But to answer your question.... just go with the flow & see. You can offer to pay & see what he says. If he’s a real gentleman, he’ll say no & pay for it. If you offer to split it, he might think you’re coming off cheap.

If he doesn't offer to pay for your coffee, run like hell. If he can't budget for a $10 date he isn't even grown. If you like him AFTER the date offer to pay next time. But I wouldn't offer for a next time until after you decide you actually see potential.

I feel like this will easily work itself out.  He'll most likely invite you to order then pay. Especially if he asked you out.  You can offer to pay, I don't really think it's necessary though.  Coffee isn't an expensive date.
