I’m losing my mind! 😡
Ok, I need some help. My 4 year old used to be a good sleeper. However, every night for the last YEAR she has been waking up at least once (sometimes up to 5 times) for random reasons. When she wakes up, it will take her anywhere from 40 minutes to 2 hours to fall back asleep, and sometimes if she wakes up around 3am, she won’t go back to sleep.
When she is awake, she will go between her room and her bathroom unintentionally making a ton of noise and turning on the lights. She will also take books out of her book shelf, take clothes out of her dresser, and come into our room asking for us to open her closet so she can put on dresses (we lock her closet). If we lock our door or ignore her, she will bang on the door and cry, and most nights ends up waking up her baby sister.
I have tried everything. Her bedtime routine starts at 6:45, and I’m usually out of her room by 7:30. I have tried moving her bedtime up, pushing it back, giving her melatonin, no water/snacks/etc. for a while before bedtime. She has a wake up clock that turns purple when she is allowed to come out of her room. She uses a sound machine and has a star projector she can use if afraid of the dark. Before she was toilet trained we had a gate in her door, but she now needs to be able to go to the bathroom at night.
She naps for an hour or two when at daycare and they are legally not allowed to keep her awake if we wanted her to stop naps. She very rarely naps when at home, though (she does do quite time) and naps don’t seem to change anything.
I am so angry that I haven’t been able to get a reasonable night sleep in a year. I’m pissed that she is messing up the sleep training we have done with our baby, and I’m at a complete loss about what to do.
