Depends on what they are doing. If they are doing color, they’ll be tipped more. If it’s just a cut I tip less than I would a color.

Well considering I spend $17 on a haircut, $5 is plenty.

Depends on the time they spent. I try to pay whatever would be at least $15/hr, based on how long it took, and I usually round up. More if they squeezed me in last minute or something like that. For the simple cut I get, it's usually $10-15. I was told more or less that prices pay their materials and salon upkeep and rent, my tip pays their time, so i keep that in mind. I don't know if it really works that way, but it seemed like a good metric.
