You are pretty, IN MY EYES. Compliment or insult?

You are pretty, in my eyes. To me you are pretty. I find you pretty (but others won't).
Is it a compliment or an insult? Coming from boyfriend/fiance/husband.

This is a backhanded compliment:

I saw your other post, ppl that are narcissists use these tactics to psychologically abuse.  They can say “it was a compliment” to try to look innocent of any wrong doing.  But the hurt is intentional.  And telling you it’s a compliment, when it’s really an insult, works to try to get you to doubt yourself.

If he truly thinks you are pretty, he'll say it. Like dammit you're pretty, wow you are so beautiful. By saying in his eyes, he is giving the compliment to himself. Like is he a charity? Is he special for finding beauty in you when others won't? If he can aknowledge that others won't find you pretty, he is trying to give himself a compliment. Wow look at me, i think you're pretty, while other people don't. I'm sooo special.

If you're the girl who posted about your fiance pretty much saying you're ugly and he's the only person in the world who thinks you're pretty. Sorry you're with a narcissist. he's trying to break you and make you feel like no one in the world would look at you but him because(" you're pretty in his eyes ")every comment you've ever received was not because someone was bored smh that he would even say that. He's definitely not a man (little boy )you would want to spend your life with. a partner is supposed to up lift you not break you into believing they all you have and no one thinks you're beautiful/gorgeous. He's probably saying all those things because his friends are more so telling him how did he end up so lucky to have a beautiful woman like you and he sees other man looking at you.Take a long look in the mirror and recognize your beauty and your worth so no one will ever have the chance to make you feel so little about yourself. The way he utilize those words it was definitely a insult to you and your character.he should be cut from your life no one needs that type of negative energy in there life.

I voted compliment but if he’s saying no one else will find you pretty but him that’s a back handed compliment and totally not accurate or okay to say! Sure everyone may not but I’m sure more people  then just him finds you attractive .

Totally depends on context. When I have major bed head & feel frumpy & gross & my husband just smiles and tells me I look beautiful to him, yes I take that as a compliment. But I’ve also seen men use the “I’m the only one who will ever find you beautiful, love you, etc.” not only as an insult but as a form of control used in abuse situations.

It’s a compliment. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Not everyone is going to find u (generally speaking) attractive, but the right person will & that’s truly all that matters!

I guess it depends how he said it. I think the “in my eyes” is a given. Anyone who compliments you on subjective things like beauty is obviously speaking from their own impression of you. I can see how it’s a bit redundant or unnecessary to say but I personally think it’s normal that it’s coming from his own vision of you

Personally I don't like the phrase. 
But I also know some men don't say it too be rude, they just don't understand. Communicate and let them/him know it isn't really sweet. I'm either beautiful or not. The eyes of the person seeing me shouldn't matter.
I had to tell my partner a couple times when I was playing around with looks and acting all "do I look pretty?" And he said your beautifil to me. All happy and will adoration in his eyes. I could tell he loved me and thought of me stunning.
Context and the way they express matters so much. 
I explained to him at a later date he could switch up the phrase but that I loved that he saw me a pretty.
