Do we really need to have a public inauguration?

Question

So I have heard people being for a normal inauguration to help with healing, moving forward, and not giving in to domestic terrorism. 
Some people say it's not worth the risk of more violence. Or spreding COVID. 
Personally I don't really care too much about ceremony and I don't like the idea of a possible super spreader event.

Yes. Every other president has had a public inauguration. They have already said there won’t be big crowds. It’s going be small and a lot more virtual. This the first time we have had a female black Vice President. It’s the end of Trump. I wanna celebrate Joe Biden and he should be able to enjoy his historic moment.

We're still in a pandemic. I'm not sure how the Biden administration can simultaneously hold a normal inauguration with crowds while also pushing for stricter covid restrictions. Plus with the security risks this year, it just seems like a much wiser choice to avoid it altogether. Televise it but don't allow crowds at the inauguration

If we were only dealing with the pandemic I would say no. But after the attempted coup we should show that we won't give into terrorism. 
It should be much smaller with masks and social distancing.

I believe having a normal inauguration, under the current conditions, would be ignorant.  
Calling for peace and healing while simultaneously putting people at risk for real violence and real disease is not only hypocritical, but dangerous.
Having a virtual inauguration would be the moral, safe & ethical way to go imo.

Available to the general public: through digital media, yes.
Available to large crowds, creating security and health risks for those that HAVE to be there: no. 
Before TV and radio, people would wait weeks or months to hear about the President's inauguration. I think we can handle one in the modern era with the secondary objective being safety from COVID and domestic terrorists.

Harris, & Biden both need to practice what is preached. If we had to give up holidays and our life for a year he can do it virtually  too.

Im pretty Biden will have a smaller gathering.
I have no idea what the laws or mandates are in the states, but seeing as both presidents have held rallies and social events the entire pandemic, I don't think an inauguration is the place to draw the line. It should all have been virtual from the start if it is going to cause this much concern.

A smaller crowd with like top top officials is fine to me. They’ll most likely be in close proximity to each other anyways. 
The rest of the genera public can watch via zoom. 
That’s sucks for their personal historic defining moment but they also are taking the reigns during a pandemic. I hate the phrase but it is what it is.
