My best friend has been so since we were 12 (now 30). We’ve grown apart a few times but always find our way back. We think differently as women, mothers, and especially politically as well... We both are different these days and it feels different when we’re together... and we both have anxiety, so that makes it harder to WANT to go, knowing that it’ll feel different than it was for so long... but we always fall right back into some form of normal and we really enjoy ourselves. So now we’re open about not wanting to do things but really encourage each other to do it anyway... knowing we’ll have fun and wish we did. 
That’s my POV though. I don’t know your situation... if it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it. But if you’re growing apart over silly things then that’s not really growth... so, I’d say go and salvage it.
