do you think schools should be more centered on learning life skills?
do you think grade schools should have more mandatory classes to teach essential life skills to kids? a lot of children don't have anyone in there lives to teach them these things. some ideas for classes i think would be a good idea:
- navigating and cultivating personal relationships
- how to manage money and handle things like taxes, buying a house and other big money investments
- extensive sex ed
- health classes that focus on nourishing your body, mind and soul (way past what traditional health classes talk about)
- practical things like understanding the basics of how cars work and how to change a tire
- world cultural tolerance and knowledge
- being informed and knowledgeable about your country's political system (past what just civics teaches, like the branches of government) as well as the social issues that your society is facing
if schools are meant to prepare children for life in the world, i think they would greatly benefit from courses geared more in this direction. i know a lot of schools used to have home ec and classes like that. i am proposing a whole curriculum shift though. do you agree or disagree?
