Hey all,

I pretty much just wanted some opinions. I’m 28, in grad school to become a therapist (start seeing clients in October) living in my own 2-bedroom apartment where I’ve been living for the past 3 years. I’ve had a roommate for the past 2. My grandma (in California) wants to move BACK out here (to Vegas) and buy a house with me.

Let’s start with the cons...

Cons:

1) She has a habit of speaking without a filter and being verbally abusive when something doesn’t go her way.

2) She only wants to move in due to fear of getting older and not having anyone else willing to take care of her due to being verbally abusive. I don’t know if I want to do it either, but the fact that she’s desperate makes me think that she wouldn’t do anything to mess it up... PLEASE let me know if I could be wrong about this.

3) I have no idea what it takes to prepare to care for someone old in age when we get to that point, but I know it’s expensive and I question if I can do it on my own if I don’t have anyone to help. (An at-home nurse is expensive even with insurance)

Pros:

1) The house will also be in my name, so stability would never be an issue.

2) The house goes to me if anything happens to her.

3) Her bedroom would be downstairs away from my bedroom upstairs in the event that I begin dating someone and want some “alone time” (I’ll also take any advice that anyone has with having alone time when there’s other family members in the home)

4) She’s retired but wants to pay half the mortgage allowing me to still save money.

5) When I start seeing clients for my final year in school, I won’t be so stressed about money.
