Apartment or house? Which do you prefer and why?

There are obviously a lot of benefits to having a house, privacy, not sharing a wall with a neighbor, less noisy, having a yard ect. 
I always assumed most people choose a apartment for financial reasons. But now a days when I’m looking at rent prices apartments are just as expensive as renting a home. (Give or take)
So which do you prefer and why?

Imo it’s better to pay a mortgage for your own home then rent for either house or apartment. Renting feels like throwing money away.

I prefer a house. 1) privacy, 2) yard, 3) can keep multiple pets/just let them out instead of taking them on a leash, 4) the walls actually retain sound, 5) not single, growing family, 6) price is the same (like you said), 7) more space to host and for storage, 8) no fighting for parking, 9) much bigger kitchen and I love to cook.

For us right now we love living in the city so we are definitely more into apartments and condos. Our walls are thick so noise and thin walls aren’t an issue for us. We never hear our neighbors and they don’t hear us despite all of us liking to listen to music and have friends over haha 
we’d only consider a house if we were ready to move out of the city which just isn’t yet. I think these preferences depend on the area you wanna live in

I like apartments/condos, but I'm a city girl. I like being within walking distance of things. Amenities. I don't need to use my car as much. There are plenty of transportation options. It's never boring. Yes, the downfall when you live in the city is that the rent can be pricey, that's why most have roommates or live with their SOs. Eventually when I'm settled and decide where I want to live, I'll probably buy a house. Until then, I don't want to buy, regret and then decide I no longer want to live in the area I've chosen.

Both have pros and cons. Apartments though, you are not paying taxes, homeowners insurance, maintenance and if something breaks it’s out of your wallet not the landlords. Sure my base mortgage was only a little more than my rent but that also didn’t include the things listed previously and interest.

My mortgage is the same amount for rent in the duplex next to me. 
I have a front and back yard. They have none. 
I can have any pet I want. 
They can only have small dogs. 
I want to paint my house green and neon purple sure can. 
They can't. 
Redid the attic into a spare room. 
They have no attic. 
They are legit throwing money into something that they will never see a return on. 
If we decide to move the cosmetics we have done will already bring more money in.

Im getting ready to downsize from a huge house to a townhouse. Our current house is 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, full basment, full attic and huge yard. Its just too much. Im tired of cleaning a big house, im really tired of yard work and snow removal. Now that our youngest son is a teenager and the oldest lives with his fiance my husband and I are ready to have some time to relax a little and spend some time together that doesnt involve home projects.

If you’re renting, I’d say apartment, but you better hope you have cool neighbors.  
If you’re purchasing, I’d choose a house. Actually... I’d be cool with a condo if I didn’t have dogs, but here we are.

I say apartment because the country I’m now living is pretty nice, it got big pool and gym so I don’t have to drive to workouts and there’s also restaurants and food stalls and mini mart. I don’t really have to leave the building unless I need to do groceries shopping. Also I’m planning to live in Germany and its mostly just apartments(not the ones I just described) in the city and a lot cheaper than a house.
