Dummies/pacifiers
Aussie here so excuse the terminology 😂 we call them dummies.
I wasn’t set on using a dummy as I thought they would impact my breast feeding however the hospital recommended I try give her one as she wasn’t sucking on my breast, would pop her mouth around and just lay there. Turns out it was because my nipples are quite flat so we’re now using a nipple shield. Anyway the hospital thought a dummy would help her practice sucking.
I’m happy she has it as it helps her settle herself after a feed as she gets a bit grizzly when she’s in her bassinet.
The issue is she sucks so forcefully and spits it out unless we hold it there until she’s asleep again. Doesn’t always happen but a good percentage of the time.
Does anyone have any suggestions or been through something similar?
Should I try and now ween her off a dummy so she finds a different way to self soothe or should I try some different types of dummies?
She does have two different brands and seems to prefer one over the other so I thought trying some others might solve the problem.
She’s only 3 days old so I don’t think it would be a huge issue to ween her off it but at the same time, if that means I get less sleep then it’s going right back in 😂
