You actually want to have sex the day BEFORE peak for the highest chance to get pregnant. This gives the sperm a chance to make it to the ovary and wait for the egg (sperm can live up to 5 days in the vagina). But yes the egg is still viable 12-36 hours after peak

It depends on how soon you ovulate. I was always told that you ovulate 12-36 hours after the first positive ovulation test not the peak test. And it’s best to have sex before that point so that the sperm is waiting for the egg when it’s released. You may have been too late.
