Bf kind of being a douche
So this week I found out that I got accepted into a Bachelor of Education program (which is really hard to get into in my province). I’m currently in the last semester of my Bachelor of Science degree.
This afternoon my bf was kinda mocking me saying “even with your university degrees, I’m still gonna make more money than you do”. I thought this was a really douchebag thing to say because it wasn’t said in a joking manner. He almost wanted to have a debate war on who would end up bringing in the most money and trying to make me feel inferior.
He goes to college in the mechanical program and wants to be a millwright (but there’s no guarantee that he’ll get that job when he’s done school). I don’t doubt that he’ll make decent money, but so will I. I’m in the process of becoming a high school science and geography teacher.
It feels like he’s trying to downgrade my education and years of hard work. Like since when did making the most money become a pissing contest in a relationship?
It got me thinking about what if, down the road, he tries to pull the “I make more money so I make the decisions” crap. I know a lot of men are like that and I will not stand by a man that tries to have a pissing contest over money like that. I’m my own woman, I will make my own money and I will make my own decisions. If we get married then we make decisions together - it will NOT be based on who brings in the most money. We will both have our own careers therefore we will both bring in decent money. Who cares about who brings in the most? We’re both hard working ppl, that’s all that matters.
Idk why this got under my skin so much. I’ve just been thinking about it ever since he said it and it bugs the crap outta me. I just hate when men try to bring women down and try to make us feel inferior to them.
Like if we’re gonna talk so cocky about ourselves then fine... by the time I’m 24, I’ll have two bachelor degrees. He’ll have 1 college diploma by the time he’s 27. So he can sit tf down and take notes.
Rant. Over.
