Should I get an infant carseat?

Chicago

So I've been looking at convertible carseats for awhile now. It seems more worth the price because it can last from birth until the kid is pretty much old enough to be in a car without a carseat/booster (as long as there's no car accidents). But it's been a long time since I've had a newborn (my child is 5 now) and I totally forgot that one reason I even liked infant carseats is because the base attaches to the car and you can click and go, lol. I love the feature of being able to just unattach the infant carseat from the base and just take it in, instead of bucking and unblocking and rebuckling 5 minutes later (gas station trips). Although I hate carrying around the heavy ass thing, I hated the constant buckling even more.

Buuuut, ultimately, should I get a converting carseat, or start with an infant seat and upgrade to front facing down the line?

What do you use?

Do they make carseats that can click into a base that are also convertible for years of use? 🤣
