Is breast feeding after C-section possible?

Question

After my c section last year I wasn't producing enough milk and was unable to breast feed my baby. With our second baby, I want to successfully breast feed more than anything. 
I assumed I'd have another c section. But I am wondering if I should consider a natural birth to encourage milk production. 
On the other hand, my friend said that I should start pumping immediately and that can help with milk production. 
Could any of you ladies shed some light on this? I'd love to hear your stories

With my first the milk came i instantly, that was a vaginal delivery. I breast fed for a year easily. With my second, emergency c-section, the milk didn't came. And it doesn't for many after a c-section. Eventually I could but there were too many issues already so I stopped at 3 months unfortunately.
The solution (for many) is to start pumping from 37+ weeks. Not earlier because it can induce labour. My sister lactated (only colostrum) before her c-section and kept it in the freezer. From the moment she gave birth she could breastfeed. This is my plan too because I am probably getting another c-section (medical reasons).

Of course possible. And I have not pumped a day in my life. Just regular feed on demand and as othen as possible got my milk kicked in by day five, that is normal.
I don't think you should pump so early, it is kot reccomend in first month, if I remember correctly.

I had a c section and breastfed just fine. The nurses were a little worried at first about my supply and pushing for me to supplement with formula. I was very against formula at such a young age. I just personally feel that babies that little have really sensitive stomachs and formula can cause lots of tummy issues (not against those moms that do it but I just felt like I should try everything first before resorting to that). I fought the nurses and said no I will keep on trying to nurse my baby. I kept the baby in the room with me the entire two days with no breaks, my nipples were sooo raw I cried with every latch. The lactation consultant at the hospital helped a bunch and both baby and mom went on to breastfeed until 15 months! It is totally possible and even when it gets hard you can do it! For me it was very grueling and painful first month or two (my baby never had a great latch no matter what I did). But your nipples and supply after a couple months tend to adjust and it gets soooo much easier after that.

I had trouble breastfeeding my son after my emergency c section and ended up giving up after 6 weeks. With my daughter I had a planned c section and successfully breastfeed until she was 15 months and only stopped the because I was 18 weeks pregnant with our third.

Ive had no trouble breastfeeding after two c sections. I would agree lactation consultant is helpful. Also I feel a lot of people think they’re not producing enough milk when they actually are.. babies need a tiny amount of colostrum in those first few days and after that a lot of people’s milk supply is fine they just think it’s not because baby wants to nurse all the time (normal) or they don’t get a lot out pumping (babies don’t need huge amounts of milk at first, when you’re pumping on top of feeding you’re creating an excess milk supply to feed baby AND pump which is fine but it doesn’t mean you’re supply is low you just have to keep the demand to produce that excess milk). I EBF on demand with both babies and my milk came in normally, never had any supply issues. Most definitely possible mama!

Of course! I successfully breastfed for 18 months. Did a lactation consultant come help you? They came to my room right after and then also followed up with a public health nurse. If you are concerned I would reach out for support maybe in the week before your c section to get some follow up scheduled.

I successfully breastfed for 15 months after my c section. They did have me pump in the hospital to stimulate production but my milk didn’t come in until about day 5. Then it was just nursing and/or pumping every 2 hours to keep up production. I’m hoping to be able to nurse again this time around as well and will stick to the same schedule.

1. You have a choice in the birth that you want to have. Just because you had one csection doesnt mean you need to have one for the rest of your pregnancies (the ACOG recommends VBAC before RCS). 
2. I dont recommend pumping straight from the hospital because it can create an oversupply. This is what happened with my first. The LC at the hospital missed that she had a lip tie that caused ungodly amounts of pain with breastfeeding so i started pumping from day 3. 
3. Its all about supply and demand as well as taking care of yourself too. If you dont eat enough calories, get enough rest, and hydrate enough that can also impact your supply.
