The egg will be fertilized in the tube the day of or day after sex (depending on when you ovulate). It takes about a week before the egg will implant on your uterine wall, which is when the pregnancy becomes viable. A week or so after that is when you should notice your missed period and will have enough hcg to show up on a pregnancy test. Because it's uncertain which day you ovulate, doctors will go by the date of your last period, so even though the baby may only be 2 weeks implanted, they will say you are 4 weeks. Hope this helped.
