When should I have baby things ready?

I'm currently 27 weeks pregnant with my first baby. We have a few small gifts from friends but haven't actually brought anything for bubs yet. Done lots of research on cots and prams to see what we want and we do plan to go look in stores today for an idea on the ones we like (see how good they are in store)

I'm not sure if we will buy anything today as hubby keeps wanting to wait in case something goes wrong (We have a healthy pregnancy with no issues at all so far so I don't know where this is coming from)

I have been told by friends that by 30 weeks I should have the essentials ready such as cot, car seat and hospital bag ready but hubby wants to wait longer than 30 weeks. I tried to explain that after 30 weeks labour could start at any time as I have been told by friends. I'm worried we won't be ready and baby will come early but he thinks baby will be on or after due date.

In all likelihood baby won’t come until very close to 40 weeks. But that doesn’t mean you can be prepared - talk to him about where this fear of something going wrong is coming from? Is it financial? Babies don’t need a lot - somewhere to sleep, a car seat, some clothes, some feeding things - a few newborn bottles (even if breastfeeding - I’ve had to give top ups of breast milk). You can buy a lot after bub arrives but yes - getting the essentials now is a good idea

I’m currently 27.4 weeks & I am working on getting the essentials ready because like you said baby can come at any time even though it’s not a high chance I’d rather be prepared. So I have the bassinet set up, dressers, bottles, pacifiers, & newborn & 0-3 month outfits. I was worried to set up in case something went wrong as well but once I hit 24 weeks I started slowly getting things for my baby
