Cesarian vs vaginal delivery?

I am 12 weeks pregnant with our 2nd child!!! At my first ob  visit I asked if I would have to have a cesarian delivery since my first was born cesarian. She said she will review my charts but I can most likely choose whether I want to try for a vaginal delivery or opt for another csection. I have never experienced a vaginal delivery so don't know what to expect? Pros and con's? Would like both points of view please

Veteran L&D nurse here. A VBAC may be an option for you. It will depend on how long is been since your first child, why you had your first c section and what kind of uterine incision your doctor did. It sounds like your doc will be willing to do it so that takes care of that part. If your doc gives you the green light to try for a VBAC, I would recommend that route. It is a higher risk delivery because there is a small risk of the uterine scar rupturing which would lead to a stat c section. This risk is very small however. Because of this, you would need to wait to go into labour on your own, meaning no induction, because most physicians will not aggressively augment your labour. It is highly suggested you get an epidural because of the greater risk of being a stat c section as well. The recovery is much faster if you are able to have a vaginal delivery. Just keep in mind that the threshold to move from a vaginal delivery to c section is much lower when attempting to VBAC so you may end up with a c section anyway. If it looks safe, there is no reason not to attempt it but keep an open mind and be flexible in your birth experience. The important thing is to end the process with a healthy mom & healthy baby. Going for my VBAC in January! If you do the research you'll see that it's actually safer in MOST situations. Of course there are always accepting. In my case, it's the safer option, so I'll give it hell.

Well..my baby came at 33 weeks and I was not prepared for birth at all it was just one of those things I had to do regardless if I was ready or not because she was coming but I will say that I'm glad I had a vaginal delivery because although it was very painful, so is a c section but I was up and walking around very shortly after and I felt pretty decent. If we decide to have another I hope I will be able to vbac. I desperately wanted a vaginal delivery with my first and the c section recovery sucked. My incision is only just fully healing 10 weeks pp

I had both of my kids cesarian one in 2005 they put me to sleep for so it took some time to really feel awake after... and my husband did not get to be in the room... it was just the Dr for some reason did not even want to try to have me awake that one was hoarder for me to bounce back from but I made myself get up and walk as much as I could... and it was my1st one... my 2nd was with a different Dr in 2009 and he kept me awake and it was the greatest thing in my life!!! When I got to my room I called to see how my other son was and my sister in law was like didn't you just have a baby? Lol I made myself walk up and down the hall and I felt wonderful!! The only thing I ended up with was a horrible migraine that I could not get rid of...because know one told me I had to lay flat for so many hours after....... so I ended up in er after er for that in till my family Dr gave me medicine that took it away, if I could have another kids I would do cesarian any day any time but that's me. I had an emergency caesarean with my first due to a severe heart condition caused by the pregnancy (it went after my son). I am now pregnant with my second and hope for a vbac as its quicker to recover and I already have a toddler so it would be easier. However if I develop the heart condition again I will have a caesarean as I barely made it to 37 weeks so I know I wont be able to make it full term. This pregnancy looks low risk so I am very hopeful! 😊

It's quicker recovery for one. Many people claim that the vaginal birth is better for the baby and the mother, but if you are in danger I don't see how that would be. VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) are common, healthy, and can be perfectly safe for momma and baby. You can have an epidural if you choose to numb/dull the pain, you can give birth in water, squatting, or on your back. There's so many ways to do a vagnial birth!
