Does baby purée have nutrients

AB

So I have seen comments from moms saying baby purées have no nutritional benefits . Why though? The vegetables and fruits we eat are packed with good nutrients? I know pureeing the food may reduce some nutrients but not all? Not here for a debate, just need some clarification

I think the pureed fruits veggies etc are pretty good nutritionally. What I've heard is the rice and cereals aren't so good for them

I have zero idea how blending a strawberry & chewing a strawberry would be different nutritionally... I’ve never heard that before in my life. I make my sons food then blend it. I leave some chunks but it’s just easier & peace of mind for me since he’s just getting teeth, I don’t see how that can change its nutritional value. I’m with you on this one, how could that be true?

Read the nutritional info. It tells you what it does and doesnt have.

They list the ingredients but not nutritional info

Oh yes it does. Or where do you live? In europe, they are required to list the ingridients, don't know about the other parts of world, but I assume they do it elsewhere also.

Homemade baby purée has plenty of nutrients. Store bought purée in jars or pouches doesn’t have much as they’re ultra heat treated to preserve them

Of course it has. They add it there.Basically they have to thermally process foods to make them last on shelf. So that heat loses some nutrients for sure, so they add it back. What I could say, is that if you find purees that have to be in frige and have shorter shelf life, these have more original nutrients in it. Those that are use by few years date on them, they are most likely pastourized. But as I said, they add back original vitamins that should be in there.

Yes. You assume right. Even if you boil carrots t home, you boil out some nutrients. So basically store bought is even better, because they put it back. But with strawberry for example, fresh is best and at home fruits are for sure better than thermally treated ones in a jar. There are technologies to keep more nutrients in, but that is not so widespread yet.

Interesting. I had no idea that was a thing. I’m assuming if you make it yourself it’s different because it doesn’t need a shelf life & is made fresh?

I just googled this because my mind couldn’t wrap around it. I think you’ve been mislead. The only time it loses nutrients is if you juice it. Not puree
