They do smell bad, it’s basically rotting flesh. Wipe it with a damp cloth, keep it clean.

Just keep it clean when they get ready to fall off it will look kinda like a scab u know when it's healing but not all the way so it's still attached by a thread don't worry  get a alcohol pad or cotton balls or q- tips and clean around
