Nails?!?

FTM, I made a comment at work about going to get a manicure/pedicure before my induction day and one of my coworkers said that I cant have my nails done? Is this such a thing? Dependent on each hospitals rules? Or have plenty gone through labor with acrylics or nail polish on?

Only concerns would be in the nails were to long and they couldn’t get a read of your heart with the finger monitor. I had long acrylics with my second and everything was fine.

I asked my doctor and she said it was fine. It may be different depending on your hospital though. I'd just ask them.

I have my nails done, but they are also mine underneath the acrylic from all the months of growing. I plan on going
To get a pedi as well.
I think some people saying no is because they think you will hurt the baby 🙄
This is my third, I’ve been doing acrylics since I was 13...I think sometimes people exaggerate.

You can to have your nails done but you’re gonna wanna do a lighter color or like a French that way when they put the monitor on your finger it can read your pulse darker colors are hard if they can’t get it on your finger they use your toe so do the same thing on your toes. I usually pick whatever color I want but then do a French tip.

It’s a preference thing. Acrylic nails capture bacteria under them that normal nails don’t.  They are harder to keep clean. I’ve heard cut your nails short and don’t have acrylics in a hospital setting because it’s already such a germ filled environment. I’ve also heard that if your L&D nurse had acrylic nails you’re supposed to request a new nurse. Again this is all just hygiene preferences that some people have not hospital policies or rules. I don’t think there is anything wrong with a regular mani pedi. 
I would love a pre baby mani pedi but covid is keeping me away from the spa for now 😟.

It's a surgery thing... it wouldn't apply to you unless you end up having a c section.

The only thing I’ve heard was that when getting a pedicure there’s a certain pressure point in your feet that the technician massages that can cause you to go into labor ...

I’ve actually heard of this too, but I think it’s more for c sections. I’m not 100% sure though because I know people who have had c sections with acrylics 🤷‍♀️
