Any advice??

So my husband and I have been trying to conceive for almost 2 years. I want to see a doctor , but I’m nervous they won’t take me seriously. I’m over weight, what will the doctor say/do? I just want to get an idea of what to expect before I go. I’m 5,9 and 280lbs.

I’ve been TTC for almost 10 months. I’m almost the same weight as you and I’m the same height as you! I’m 23 and by my 6 month mark my OB saw me right away because once i got off BC i was bleeding for about a month. Turns out I have PCOS! My doctor wants me to lose weigh but with PCOS it’s very difficult. Even though I’m over weight, he’s still giving me medications to help me ovulate and get pregnant! I have a pelvic ultrasound tomorrow to see if my follicles are how they should be. Is it possible you have PCOS?

I know it’s easier said then done. But If possible maybe see a nutritionist to help with diet. My friend was overweight and tried to get pregnant for 6 years. She lost some weight and ended up getting pregnant right away. With no medical interventions. I know everyone’s situation is different and some people have certain health problems. But maybe bring it up to your doctor.

Hard to say because we don’t know your age but I would be prepared for your weight to be discussed as it can play a huge role in trying to conceive. I highly recommend speaking to your doctor, let him/her know how long it has been and that you haven’t conceived yet. Where I’m from, the doctor will refer to right away to a fertility specialist if it has been longer than a year without conceiving. But I’ve heard of other doctors doing tests first or even referring to an OB before a fertility specialist. I think you should be prepared for any of those situations. 
Depending on what your doctor does, you should expect, eventually, a full blood work up for both you and your husband, testing all hormones, vitamins levels, things like that. Once you get further along you should expect ultrasounds, perhaps a sonohystogram, more blood work, and a semen analysis for your husband. Depending on how all that goes and the results of those diagnostic tests you’ll likely get an idea of your options for next steps.

I've been trying for almost 2 years too. Go to an ob and tell them your situation. And have them run all the basic blood tests like hormone and vitamin genetic. Then go get a semen analysis for your partner. In my experience doctors will do the bare minimum. Like tell you to take a prenatal and wait or just loose weight. You have to ask or insist on what you want done. Be prepared to go through a very thorough medical history.

From personal experience, I know your doctor will give you a time line to lose a certain amount of weight before they really dig deep.
