Midwife or hospital?

Interested in getting a midwife once I do get pregnant. What are the pros and cons in your OPINION?

I get the appeal of a midwife or having a home birth or birthing in a birthing center, I really do. 
For me personally though in order for me to feel calm while in labor I’m going to need to know I’m surrounded by doctors and have an OR down the hall where they can save my life if the worst happens. That’s just who I am, I would be on edge the whole pregnancy if I wasn’t seeing a doctor regularly and I’d never be able to calm my nerves in a birthing center and definitely not at home. I’m just way to high strung for that.
I think it just really depends on who you are, how you deal with stressful situations (cause labor is going to be hella stressful), and what makes you most comfortable.

Off my head this would be my pro/cons and of course so much depends on you specific situation/insurance/facilities. 
Home birth- pros....more relaxed, not a clinical setting, you have more say, no hospital stay, can be cheaper in some instances.
     Cons-not all insurances cover it so at times all prenatal care/delivery are 100% out of pocket, no medical access if something goes wrong with you or baby, don't have the nursing/lactation consultant help during the first day of learning to work with the baby, usually no pain management option if you decide part way through you want that.
Birthing Center-pros...more relaxed than a hospital, usually has little or no required stay, sometimes closer to medical care if something goes wrong, sterile place you don't have to clean or worry about after birth, cheaper than hospital.
    Cons-not all insurances cover it, if something happens still have to be transferred to a hospital to have the baby, not able to have all pain management options if you choose, still somewhat clinical-not as much as a hospital but more so than home, you may still have restrictions on how you wanna birth. 
Hospital-pros...medical help.and intervention immediately available, you stay the first bday or so and that means help from nurses/lactation consultants/meals taken care of, able to have pain management if you choose, ob/ped doc checks you and baby there so no separate appt day 1 or 2 after baby, insurance will cover it to some %.
Cons-more expensive before insurance, potentially less options on your birth plan (varies by hospital), clinical setting so not as comfortable, mandatory stay post birth.

If you get a midwife you can still birth at the hospital. I thought they recommended midwives if you’re a low risk pregnancy.

The only con I can think of is that you don’t have the same access to thorough medical care at home if something should happen. It’s a “just in case” thing

It really depends on where you live.
In Europe most countries offer midwife as the first and only option and if your a high risk pregnancy then you’d have an OBGYN and doctor supported lead pregnancy.
I am having a midwife whom I absolutely love and delivery with epidural at the hospital
There are tons of options of having support from either depending on what your needs are ( Medical and non medical) 
Also I’m not high risk and a FTM. Xoxo 😘

I chose midwife through a birthing clinic. So it was a team of midwives at a facility. 100% felt less like a medical patient and more like a woman with concerns going through a crazy experience. When you hit the 3rd trimester the midwives discussed various birthing options and for scenarios they cant handle. So if something goes awry they have a partnership with the local hospital. I saw the midwives for the bulk of my care and loved it (am going to switch to them for women's health too) but my water broke early before 37 weeks and the clinic wouldnt see moms before 37 weeks. So I had to go to the hospital (which has some on staff midwives). It was as good of an experience in a hospital as it could have been because my body was ready. But I will do the birthing center with midwives for my next one too. Biggest fear is the cascade of intervention with a hospital. Also many ob/gyns havent even done a birth without intervention. I did have to get induced due to risk of infection with water breaking early and I really wanted to avoid that because it can make labor more painful and thus you more likely to get an epidural and those go wrong just enough to cause you and baby distress and then that meant c section. And I personally didnt want that.

Midwife if your like 100% natural no problems pregnancy, they only come in with a bath and toes and gloves, if anything happens they still have to call 911 🤷🏽‍♀️
