Do kids really NEED both parents? Mother/Father

Question

If your answer is yes than why can single people adopt a baby? If it’s a necessity that the child has both parents? I think that one great parent is better then 2 shitty ones. Just my opinion. And if you’re gonna say “you should at least give the child a chance to meet the father.” I will reply with “babies that are adopted don’t get the chance to meet either parent.”
It’s just a question. I just want to know y’all’s opinions. That is my opinion^ let me know if yours is different and why.

Countless studies have shown that single parenthood (usually motherhood) lead to higher rates of juvenile crime, and school dropouts. Same goes for fatherlessness. 
I think it’s always best for a child to grow up with two parents, and I base that opinion on statistics and facts. 
HOWEVER, this obviously doesn’t mean that all kids growing up in single parent households are destined for delinquency, it’s just a higher chance unfortunately. I respect the hell out of single parents who make the best out of their situations.

Is it “necessary” to have a male and female parent? No, it’s not. 
Is it beneficial? Statistically, yes. Having positive parental influences of both gender parents is shown to have many social, emotional, and even physical benefits.
However, it’s better to have no mother or father if those parental figures are abusive or are overall a negative influence on the child. My husband’s biological father beat his mother in an effort to force a miscarriage when she was pregnant with him. He was better off without him in his life. My father was loving, encouraging, and responsible, and I was better off having him in my life even though my parents were divorced.
Nobody is the same. Two people could grow up in exactly the same environment with the exact same parents and influences and still end up very different. 
In general, kids need at least one *positive* and *loving* parental figure. Two positive and loving parents, of any gender combination, are even better.

A stable/loving single parent > unstable/unloving mom and dad. 
If both parents are caring and able that's great, but children can be raised by one parent as well. 
I will say that if a single parent doesn't "give a chance for the child to meet their [other parent]" for any reason other than to PROTECT the child from harm, then that is crappy of them. A child doesn't NEED both parents but if both parents are fit & want to be involved in their lives, it should happen.

No. Humans, in general, are pretty resilient. You COULD be better OR worse off with or without many things, including people. But, if we’re talking do all humans need two parents to flourish, absolutely not. Also, what about families with two moms or two dads? Obv humans need love, food, water, shelter...and a few other basics, but even with those necessities being scarce, so humans will still flourish, simply on their own. People are different, situations are different....no one can say what any individual truly needs to be at their best.

You don’t NEED 2 parents. Yes, it would be great if that is the case but kids can get through life just fine with only 1 parent as well! What kids NEED is loving, supportive adults in their life that they can count on. That’s all. 😊

I read a great parenting book called Rest Play Grow and they said kids need at the very least one person who is crazy about them to thrive. More is obviously bonus and gives that parent a real break so that he or she can thrive too, which is probably why two parents or supportive family and friends are so important, but really children just need that one person who thinks the world of them so that they can think the world of themselves

Of course one good parent is better than 2horrible ones or ones that are in abusive relationships- but if you look at the actual science you find having 2 parents in the home ( good parents since I must clarify) is  better for the child. There are plenty of study’s with this is sociology and psychology. I can’t say why single parents are allowed to adopt, I would imagine because it’s better to have one good parent over none. Each gendered parent  brings something different to the table and have various experiences. Obviously either parent can teach respect and responsibility etc, but only a man can sit his son down and discuss what it means to be a “good man” from the make perspective ( vice versa for women). Idk thervis a bunch of evidence behind it, but I think all children should be loved and hopefully come from the best home possible, regardless how many parents they have

I think children need role models and influential adults of all different identities. I don’t think that person needs to be a parent, though. An aunt, uncle, grandparent, family friend, church leader, etc. can all be great figures for children to learn from and be guided by. So I guess my answer is no. I think two parents of the same gender or one parent is perfectly fine. Family structures can be fluid and flexible.

No. Having been a parent with a difficult partner, being a single parent made life a lot easier.  I had some advantages such as a well-paying work from home job and an emotionally supportive family.  It was a huge improvement for my kids to shift to a single parent.  
I think that we should be careful about pushing the unqualified narrative that a 2 parent household is objectively best because it can really pressure women with children to stay in untenable situations "for the kids". 
That said, now that I'm remarried with a helpful partner, I am a much better parent and my kids do benefit from there being 2 of us.
