Any tips on how to get LO to color/scribble?

I purchased the non toxic, short stubby crayons to help teach my son how to color and he just wants to eat them. I demonstrate how they make colors on the paper but he isn’t interested. Any tips or toys you’ve found helpful to demonstrate the idea of coloring/scribbling?

I find it fascinating how DD is developing because she certainly has particular interests, and things she’s absolutely not interested in. Take stacking, I’ve shown her how to stack and build towers for months and months. She has NEVER been interested. Then a couple of weeks ago she suddenly built a perfect tower, as if to get me to shut up about it 😂
So now I don’t push things. What I’m trying to say is, just because your LO isn’t colouring yet doesn’t necessarily mean they can’t... maybe they just want to prioritise doing other things?

My husbands aunt got our daughter a mat from Amazon that uses water to draw/color. I don’t know what it’s called but essentially it’s a mat with water markers. My daughter loves drawing on it.

Try different sizes & shapes of crayons. We tried egg shaped ones to no avail but the jumbo sized ones seem to be a hit.
I moved her hands back and forth to demonstrate how to scribble and praised her when she made marks by herself

Try dot markers. You can get washable dot markers which are chunky pain sticks. I find my son eats crayons or chalk but will use these to draw. He’ll also use textas, the rounded tip ones with not much you can bite off.

They are a little young to want to color unless they see an older siblings doing it. My 15M old likes to steal crayons and paper from the 2 &4 year old and simultaneously eat and scribble. Don't sweat it. My oldest barely wanted to touch crayons until she was 3 and my 2 middle girl started liking them for scribbles not food at almost 2.

I think this is going to be normal for a while. We have bees wax crayons so I'm not worried about him eating some but also they were like $20 so I take them away pretty quick when he starts putting them in his mouth. I have given him an empty shipping box to color on and that was more interesting to him than coloring on paper. I also got sidewalk chalk and he liked that for a day or two but is now more interested in chewing on the container 🤷‍♀️

Following. Mine wants to make a few marks then eat them, or wants to touch them to all of his toys. Lol
