Fire Victim First Time Mom 35 Weeks Pregnant
My name is Lisa I am 22 years old and 35 weeks pregnant with a baby boy. Last week on Thursday morning I was one of the individuals that was a victim in this huge fire on Rosemeade parkway in Dallas Tx. It was around 3am in the morning when my dog started barking nonstop I just thought maybe she had to go to the bathroom. When I got up and got dressed to take her out I heard all these people yelling and looked out of the patio door and saw fire in the apartment next to mine it was totally engulfed in flames. We had to act fast. I started grabbing everything I would need such as keys and my phone and quickly put some clothing on. My smoke alarms were still not going off at this point. I was going to try and go out of the front door and down the stairs but when I opened the door the fire was already at my door. At this point my fire and smoke detector were still not going off and never did until the fire was in my apartment. I had only one other option the bedroom window. I got to the furthest bedroom from the door with my dog and closed the bedroom door while I figure out what my next step was. First i had to open the window and get the screen off of the window by kicking it out then I had to get my dog out she was terrified but I picked her up and had to drop my poor baby out of the window to safety after that I jumped out after her and ran to the car. It is still under investigation as to what exactly started the fire, but the occupants of the apartment that caught fire were caught on video walking down the stairs the man first with his dog an he just stared up at the fire not notifying anyone then the female she got down the stairs looked up at the fire and then they both walked off like nothing was going on never notifying anyone of the danger they were in or notifying the fire department. If it weren’t for my dog I would not have made it out of this as quickly as I had or at all. I got out of my apartment about 3:05am and it was 5-10 minutes before the fire department showed up. It took them a good hour and a half at least to put the fire out. The flames where so big and just kept coming back. I had moved myself and my dog across the street while the Fire department was doing their job and I could see the flames above the building. That morning was so crazy!! The office of the apartments opened at about 4:30 am to collect the names of people who were effected by this fire to displace them into a hotel. They ended up putting me in a hotel that didn’t except dogs knowing I had a dog. The hotel said to put the dog in a shelter now why would I leave the dog that saved my life and was terrified and confused as to what was going on alone in a shelter over night that wasn’t very considerate of the people at the apartments.I ended up having to sleep in my car that night after I had to spent the a majority of the day at the hospital getting all kinds of tests done to ensure the safety of my baby since I had to jump out of the window the babies blood could have mixed with my blood causing a a stop of blood flow to the baby and the placenta could have been dislodged or gotten damaged from the impact of my feet landing on the ground even tho I didn’t hit my stomach going down. I wasn’t able to go back to the apartment until later that day to access the damage and when I got there after everything that had happened I was absolutely devastated I just moved in to these apartments not even a 2 weeks prior to this and now my apartment is totally destroyed and I lost everything. My stroller system was thrown on the ground outside ruined soaking wet smoked out with parts of the ceiling and roof in it. I could see some of my shoes under the ceiling parts that were thrown out of my apartment. And I hadn’t even been inside yet I could tell that the room closest to the door had fire damage due to the way the outside looked it was all burnt up and I could see the roof was missing. As I went up the stairs it was more clear I probably don’t have anything left. As I walked in the front door everything became real I really lost everything in my apartment the fire came all the way into my apartment half way through the living room and the rest was smoke damaged and water damaged. It was hard seeing that. Then the insurance I had through the apartments won’t help pay for any of my personal belongings that I lost and I hadn’t had the opportunity to change my insurance from my old apartment over to the new apartment. I have to start all over with my baby items 5 weeks before I give birth. If you could help out in any way it would be greatly appreciated.
