Birth story
Just wanted to write down my birth story before I start to forget it!!!
At 2:30 AM I woke up to pee, when I laid back down I started having pretty consistent contractions so I hopped in the shower to see if they would slow down, or speed up. They stayed pretty consistent so I got out of the shower and went to time them on the couch. They were coming every four minutes lasting about a minute each for a little over an hour so I called my doula and she headed over to my house. (This is my second baby, and my first came in about five hours)
My doula got to my house around 5:00 AM, and when she arrived my contractions stopped. So I snuggled my son (almost three years old) and had him try to nurse a little bit to bring the contractions back. He stopped nursing a little more than half way through this pregnancy, so he hadn’t latched in awhile. Instead of latching he just kind of played with my boobs so we decided to start pumping with my spectra to get things going again and boy oh boy did that bring on some crazy contractions. After about twelve minutes of pumping, my water gushed out, so we stopped pumping and I called my midwife (the plan was to birth at a birthing center about five minutes from my house) but the midwife said to hang out at home until things sped up, she predicted this being around noon which sounded insane to me since my son came so quick, but I said okay and went back to laboring with my doula. I decided to work through some contractions on the birthing ball.
At around 7:45 AM I got uncomfortable on the birthing ball and decided to try to use the bathroom. Nothing really happened, so I got up and said I wanted to lay down. But when I got to my bed I could not lay down comfortably so I decided to get in the bath instead. I labored there for about ten minutes and then had an INSANE urge to push all of the sudden, which startled me, because I didn’t realize I was that far into it. My doula decided to call 911 to get me to the hospital, because the birthing center said they couldn’t assess me if I was already in full blown labor, or something weird like that.
At about 8:30 AM the EMT’s arrived and had to help me out of the bath tub, put me in a crazy looking chair and carry me outside for all of my neighbors to see 😅😅😅 (so awkward) the whole ambulance ride was uncomfortable, and they had an intern that kept asking me repeat questions, and asking if I had the urge to push. If I said I had the urge to push they would tell me to stop... so I kept saying no, and just pushing anyways, because there is no way to not push when your body wants to push!!!
We got to the hospital at around 8:50 AM they switched me to the hospital bed and none of the nurses checked me, they just told me not to push because I wasn’t in active labor yet, and I was just hurting my cervix... when the doctor finally came in she asked to check me and I said go for it... all she did was look at my vagina and saw my daughters head crowning so she told me to push. My fiancé hardly made it in the room, since he had to come in a separate car. I started really pushing and my baby girl was out in three pushes! All natural! No tearing! At 9:04 AM at 39 weeks exactly. She weighs 7 lbs 14 oz and 20 inches long.
Even though the pain felt horrible and never ending, and I begged for an epidural, her and I worked together and got her out medication free!!! I wasn’t sure I could do it, but I did it, and I’d do it again 1000 x!!!
