How long do divorces take??

The guy I'm dating is going through a dissolution of marriage (which was started before I met him a couple months ago) the thing is I really want it to be over soon so he and I can focus on us and our relationship. I know they are at the point of gathering up the wage information and submitting it to a judge. Any idea how much longer before it's final? Has anyone been through this??

He does have a child they have the parenting plan together and custody agreed on. It seems like the only big issue will be child support

I'm a divorce attorney. They take anywhere from a few weeks to a few years depending on how much the parties fight with each other.

For me, no children completely separate finances and no joint equity and a completely mutual split took about 2 months from the time I submitted the paperwork to the time I got my court date. After that it was another 2 weeks before I got the final piece of paper.

What took the longest was getting my ex who lived out of state to sign and notarize the paperwork and send it back to me.

I imagine if we had to hash out a custody agreement or split up property it would take a lot longer.

My SO's dissolution once filed took two months. A hearing was set, she didn't go, they agreed on everything, there was a child involved. It wasn't a battle divorce, it was consensual and the marriage had ended way before the filing. it took a few months to draft up the paperwork and come together with a parenting plan and property agreement between them and their work schedule and also them not wanting to be around another. Basically it was like a few months drawn out legal official break up instead of the simple "It's over" that had already occurrd way before. Often depends on the state you're in too and how backed up the courts are. My parents divorce took years! I grew up seeing that thinking that was normal. Boy was I wrong.

Every case is different. Mine only took 4 months (mainly because my ex didn't show up to any of the court dates so there was no disputes and I was awarded everything). Unfortunately I know some people who had to wait over a year for everything to be finalized.

Divorce can take a while sometimes if things arent agreed on. There is also a waiting period some places wait 60 days before they finalized the papers to see if there is reconciliation. That happens often. Also alot of people who get there papers that says its final it is usually a ruff day even though they are done and over. Just be patient and it will get done. Divorces arent and easy thing to go through.
