Do you believe in “taking a break” in a relationship.

I don’t believe in taking a break in a relationship but I want to know why other people think it’s ok.

I did in my last relationship... never doing that again. It’s either we work it out or we’re over. Taking a break is usually just to avoid the problem and they almost always end it a breakup anyway.

As a general rule I do not. But I have seen people take a break after years of marriage and it saved their marriage. I think it comes down to what is the situation, and is the goal to save a relationship, or are you taking a break to see what else is out there.

So before my husband and I got married we technically took two "breaks." Today he won't call them that and says breaks don't work but it did work for us, or else we wouldn't be happily married right now lol. I deal with depression, he didn't want to do anything with the relationship and so I moved out, moved back in and then a few months later I moved out again and then moved back in after that and we got married. We never broke up bc we still talked nearly everyday and always made time for each other but the separation we had helped us to realize how much we wanted to be together. I was also 18-19 and was in a rough spot in my life so I moved in way too early after we met (I was technically homeless though lol) but we learned a lot about ourselves in that time apart. I could go on and on and on but it was good for us at the time. Of course if the breaks lasted any longer than they did, I don't think things would have worked out very well.

If your relationship needs a break, it’s a weak relationship and you just shouldn’t be together. Any two people who are truly committed would show it and work on issues together.
