Contractions to dilate?

Do you HAVE to have contractions to dilate? I am 34+ and have had no contractions. I have read others say they have been like 1-2 cm dilated at that time but I think they had contractions too.....

Yes I have Braxton hicks daily but I'm talking about the painful contractions. I don't think you can dilate from Braxton hicks.

I was 6cm before I realised I was in labour, as far as I know I didn't feel any contractions to get there, but I was asleep and it was my 3rd baby so I probably just slept through them! 🙈😂😂

You can dilate from BH if they're strong enough. But they don't have to be as strong as regular contractions, if that makes sense. I labeled mine as a 3 on the pain scale so overall pretty weak, but they happened often enough that I dilated to 3 and am 80% effaced.

I was 3 cms before I felt any painful contractions with my second. I get BH every pregnancy

I have numerous Braxton hicks every day and they are never painful. I also went in to preterm labor and was 2cm dilated with no pain at 30 weeks. I'm currently 35 weeks and I'm getting contractions about 5-10 times an hour but was told not to come to the hospital until they were painful. This is just my experiences

I had Braxton hicks regularly up till the last couple weeks of my pregnancy. At 39 weeks I wasn't even dilated. Went in for my 40 week check up and bam! Was 2 cm and 70% with no contractions (that I could feel).

On that note. I went for regular non-stress tests due to being high risk and I would register contractions on the monitor but I didn't feel them so you could be having some real contractions that your just not feeling yet. :)
