4/30 Check-In

Alicia • Mom 👧🏽🧒🏽👼🏽 #AngelMom

Hello Ladies. I hope everyone is doing well. Congratulations to everyone that has given birth and those that are awaiting their little ones PLEASE GET AS MUCH REST AS YOU CAN. I know that’s easier said than done lol

The twins are approaching 6 weeks 🤯 I am still amazed every time I look at them that they are MINE! I need some advise ladies. LJ is suffering from acid reflux and is spitting up after almost every feed. I burp him and hold him up but it still comes up and sometimes through his nose. I feel so bad for him because I can tell his tummy is bothering him. I give him gripe water twice a day but it’s still not giving him much relief. Any advise would be appreciated.

So much that ppl stayed till pass midnight, lol. My husband family left at 3am! LOL! Now I understand why ladies doing it earlier and during lunch/early afternoon time. I’m actually really happy we won’t see anyone till she is born.

Lol girl, you are tough tough tough!! You’re an IVF survivor! That already puts us in a league of our own 🌟. I hear you on the last 4 weeks. So great you’re that far and enjoy the heck out of it! I bet you’ll get a little final burst of energy to make it through. I actually felt great my last few weeks which just have been hormones playing tricks on me. Sending all the good vibes your way for a few more weeks. It’s so magical, being pregnant soak it all in, pains and all 💗

Hi Alicia! I’m sorry your little one is dealing with that. I know it’s so hard to see them struggle. Are you breastfeeding or bottle feeding? One thing I noticed with my baby was she was gulping formula from the bottle way too fast early on, so I switched the bottle nipples from newborn to preemie on the Doctor Brown bottles and that helped a lot. I didn’t switch back until about two weeks ago and it took a few days for her to adjust again. It might be worth trying if you’re not already doing that. We have been doing pretty good lately. Baby girl slept for a six hour stretch last night which felt amazing! Hoping this will be a new trend. We will be driving to Houston in two weeks so that will be our first road trip. Do you ladies have any advice for that?

It did feel good although it was only one night! Haha but at least she is sleeping about five hours for the first stretch now so I’ll take it. I’m doing good - some days are easier than others for sure. How are you? How’s little Atticus doing?

Wow, Grace, super parents. I’m still so heartbroken for you about your loss. How are you coping with that now? Post birth is already so emotional. I think I cry every day over something. Sending hugs 💗

Hi Alicia! I don’t have advice, but that valve is one of the last things to develop, so reflux is pretty common until the body catches up. My sister had to give my nephew meds for his when it got bad enough, and they weaned him off the meds as he moved into solids. We had our anatomy scan this week. Both girls are doing well; doc didn’t see anything concerning for either of them. They are both small (23rd percentile and 9th percentile), and Baby B is still measuring a week behind Baby A. He didn’t adjust Baby B’s age for the scale, otherwise she’d be 50th percentile. He assures us this is common this early (19w3d/18w3d at the time of the scan) and the important thing is that they keep on growing and moving up the curve. Hard not to worry about EVERYTHING, though. We’ll go back in 4 weeks for a closer look at their hearts. In other news: we had started tiling our floors at the end of last year/beginning of this year, but when morning sickness kicked in, I couldn’t do it anymore, so we bit the bullet and hired someone to finish the job for us. They finished yesterday, and I’m thrilled. They aren’t perfect, but they are finished and they look great. Next up: kitchen cabinets and walls! I told my husband we have four months (max) before these girls arrive, so we have to get things moving ASAP.

Not worrying is impossible!!! I’m just trying to not worry too much. Great they’re doing so well. I’m also trying to love by the rule that I’d the doctor isn’t worried, I should be worried. Also, floors look great! Good for you for insisting they get done pre-baby. They definitely won’t after!!

Hi Alicia and baby twins 👯‍♀️. We have the same issue it seems boys are more likely to have reflux. I tried everything ! The best thing is to feed them upright and not burp too much- one or 2 burps max when he signals he needs it. The baby bjorn is amazing for feeding upright though I usually feed upright in my lap. This means you will have to pump the breast milk then feed. Gripe water doesn’t work. It could also be food intolerance. So start eliminating things from your diet. For us I think it’s cows milk so I don’t drink it

I asked the nurse that comes weekly to check on them and they said the same thing it’s more common with boys. Pace feeding is working and I will try probiotics too hopefully it helps him poop too.

Hi Ladies,I think all of us with baby boys are having a bit of reflux. Atticus has had a bit too, and my old wives wisdom friend also says that watching what we eat too in the fourth trimester can help a lot. There’s no science behind it, but from being a baby nurse and doula she believes that trying to eat bland foods, not too much spice or acid can really help. I dunno 🤷🏼‍♀️ maybe worth trying? I’ve backed off spicy food and raw fish and acid and it’s sad for me but I guess what’s three more months is not eating what I want lol Atticus has his VCUG where they check to see if he has urinary reflux back into his kidneys. We’re praying it all goes well and it’s not too painful for him 🤞🏻🙏🏻 the doctors aren’t worried, so we’re trying not to be, too. But it’s hard knowing he’ll be in pain today. Otherwise, he also has a posterior tongue tie so we have all kinds of crazy things going on!! None are serious and for that I’m thank ful but it is exhausting physically (pumping and breastfeeding all the time) and emotionally. Thank you all for the support ✨💛✨💛✨. We will get through this!!Xoxoxo

Hey Super Mom!! I’m doing a lot better, thank you. Not gonna lie, all of these curve balls have been really hard. But, with the good news from the VCUG I am feeling a lot better. And, we’re doing everything we can for Atticus’s tongue tie. I haven’t given up hope on that and I’m trying not to worry about it, too. I often wonder, why is it so easy to worry instead of just be happy? Why is worry the easier emotion? I’m working on letting go and not worrying about the future and just enjoying now. He’s grown so much and is doing so well, why am I worrying about the future? Now. How are you and Maddie doing?? I love hearing your updates. It seems like things really do get better with time.

I’m soooo soooo happy to hear this amazing news!!! So glad he isn’t having issues with keeping urine in the bladder. My baby also had a posterior tongue tie and he also had a lip tie. It helped breast feeding only slightly because he also has reflux which I know your boy has which really impacts breast feeding. Honestly I’m really happy we did it as data shows problems with speech and breathing and sleep apnea in adulthood cuz of tongue ties! Plus they end up with recessed chins that just don’t look right! I’m glad I could help prevent these issues for him in adulthood. Because of his reflux he never became efficient at the breast so I so I switched to exclusively pumping which was the right decision for us because it means he gets enough breast milk and I get some reprieve because it was so emotional draining to have a baby that feed constantly because he was so inefficient at getting the right amt of milk

Hey Alicia sorry to hear LJ isn’t doing well. We are going through the same thing, Logan has been spitting up and vomiting after eating. We are bottle feeding breast milk and have tried paced feeding, sitting him up, burping often but he still throws up once in a while. Our pediatrician says it’s normal and will subside once he is able to sit up more. Sorry I don’t have much advice!

I guess it’s something we all have to go through. I’m trying pace feeding and it seems to be working so far. I also ordered probiotics I heard it helps so I will try to that too.

Ugh we had a big acid reflux problem too. We got her on baby Prilosec and it really helps. Our pediatrician was going to prescribe a small dose of Reglan but her situation doesn’t seem severe enough to warrant it. How amazing does a 2 hour worry free nap sound?? Ughhh a dream!!I’ll say I noticed a big improvement with Maddie’s sleep around 10-11 weeks. That’s also when we really looked into the “Moms on Call” routine too. Granted i imagine it’s so much harder with twins!
