Marginal insertion cord

Rosa

Hi everyone I came back from my doctor's appointment today where she reviewed my 20 week anatomy scan. I found out I have Marginal insertion cord, anyone else have experience with this or have also been diagnosed with MIC I'm just trying to find out more information from people who have went through this first hand.

My daughter's was velamentous, which I think is a more extreme version of marginal insertion. Like another commenter, we didn't know until she was born. She did have low birth weight (5 lbs 15 Oz), but other than that was perfectly healthy

My friend had an eccentric placenta, which I think is also in this family of cord insertion problems. She needed weekly ultrasounds in the 3rd trimester because they were worried about low birth weight. Ended up being induced a week early because he was already over 9 lbs

I have mci. At my 20ish anatomy scan, they found that. They've set another appt at 28w to see if anything has changed. I'm almost 23w. So we'll go from there. They say I'll have to have a c section. I've already had one so my nect was already predetermined then this basically is sealing the deal. I've not changed any activity though and haven't been asked to do anything different. I'm sure yours will be similar. Good luck.

They didn’t see my son’s marginal cord insertion until after birth despite having 3 ultrasounds! At the last bpp, she said it was central and normal...we found out at birth the next day that it definitely wasn’t. He was diagnosed iugr and born in the 5th% the next day but my placenta was also failing so I think that was probably the reason for the iugr

My friend and sister in law both had this. They just had to be a little more careful with their activity levels and baby’s were monitored more closely. Both babies were around 5-6lbs at birth. But one was premature due to other complications.
