SPD prevention tips?

Brianna

Anyone have SPD in a previous pregnancy and have tips on prevention for the next pregnancy?

With my first (just last year), I had SPD that started at 14 weeks and got progressively worse as I got further along. It got to the point where I couldn’t get out of bed or off the couch by myself without excruciating pain or stand/walk for more than a minute without feeling like my pelvis was going to break in half. I did PT in my 3rd trimester, but it really didn’t help. I tried a pelvic support belt, and it helped at first, but then my bump just got so big (and my son got heavier) that nothing helped anymore.

I’m pregnant again, about 6 weeks now, and I’m wondering if any of you mamas who have experienced this can give me tips for preventing it from getting that bad in this pregnancy? I read that if it happens in one, there’s a higher chance of it happening again. I’ve also heard that after your first pregnancy, symptoms can happen earlier in every subsequent pregnancy 🙃 I’m starting some pelvic floor exercises now to try to strengthen a bit and hopefully 🙏🏼 keep it from getting to that point, but I don’t know if that’s all I can do?

I’m terrified of that pelvic pain. I would take labor and delivery, morning sickness, acid reflux, and everything else COMBINED over that pelvic pain. It was excruciating, because according to my PT, my pelvis would slightly separate on the left side joint in my lower back and pinch my sciatic nerve basically anytime I would move if I wasn’t extremely careful or helped by someone else. Towards the end, absolutely nothing I did helped. 🆘 I’m so nervous 😩
