Can getting a cervix check really cause infection?

In an physicians office with proper hand hygiene, gloves, sterile equipment etc....chances are pretty slim. 
Trying to do it yourself with barehands in your bathroom... definitely more risky.

Any time you put ANYTHING in there it introduces bacteria, even washed gloved hands, but it’s extremely unlikely to happen.

Only if they introduce bacteria into you. E.g not wearing gloves. I don't know how common it is but I've never gotten once during my pregnancies - most doctors are safe enough

I trained medical professional doing the cervical check has a low chance of introducing bacteria but not impossible. 
I decline cervical checks because knowing how dilated or effaced you aren’t isn’t useful information. It tells you nothing about when baby is coming. And they are uncomfortable and I’d rather just not get them. If I ever need to be induced I will let them since that helps determine the best path forward for induction. But other than that no one is doing a cervical check on me till I show up to L&D triage for delivery and then after that I’m only getting checked when I want to be check especially if my water is broken.
