I had an emergency c-section and ended up losing a lot of blood. I was discharged only to be admitted back to the hospital a week later and received a blood transfusion of 2 units. I asked the obgyn on staff and a pediatrician if it was safe to continue breastfeeding and they said it was, but didn't offer a lot of information and reassurance. My obvious main concern is that there would be adverse harm to the baby through breastmilk (transmission of virus/disease) or some kind of other negative reaction. Did anyone else receive a blood transfusion and is breastfeeding after? If so, what did your doctor(s) say about risk issues?
