Is changing table a necessity? Or will changing pad do?

If you have a dresser or another stable surface at waist-height then you can put your changing pad on that instead. Otherwise I’d definitely buy a changing table because being able to change your baby without bending over a thousand times a day will absolutely save your back. Some pack n plays have a changing pad attached as well, but they’re usually smaller so they can’t be used as long as a regular changing pad.

We didn’t have one and it wasn’t missed. I only had a portable changing pad for the diaper bag in case we needed it when we were out and about. Otherwise when we were at home I just but a towel under my babe and changed him on the bed or the floor 🤷🏻‍♀️

Had a table top changing pad for my first ... used it at first , but then just changed him anywhere by throwing a blanket down. Didn’t use the changing pad at all with baby number two. I did use the changing table attached to pack n play while baby was very small , but the couch , bed and floor worked just fine with a towel/blanket down .

We just used the top of the dresser with a changing pad. No specific changing table.
