Nuchal translucency screening?

How many mommas did this screening? I have a requisition for it but am still on the fence. How accurate is this at screening for downs syndrome at 12 weeks? What are your experiences? My doctor said it is an optional ultrasound.

I read your concern is accuracy, but try to understand what the test really is. It doesn't diagnose downs syndrome, it just looks for signs associated with it to suggest if you should get further testing or not to more aggressively diagnose it. So even if it isn't 100% "accurate" doesn't mean it isn't helpful, because now you'll know if you should get more testing or no need. And even if you'd still keep the pregnancy, it's still important to understand the health of your child because children with downs syndrome sometimes need additional medical care eg a pediatric cardiologist. Also this screening looks for other things eg baby's overall growth, placental placement, cervix health etc. So I had it done even my pregnancies where I had the nipt and therefore downs syndrome was ruled out already, simply for the other health screening.

I’ve had 3 kids, I’ve never had a nuchal translucency scan, I’ve always done the blood test. It is more accurate, but probably more expensive depending on insurance.

I had mine it came back normal no worries. Why do you hesitate?  Its just an ultrasound

I did it. I basically told the doctor to sign me up for anything my insurance would cover and they covered the NT scan. Everything turned out normal, which was great. 
I think it was also my most fun scan because baby was big enough to look like a baby and still small enough to do some pretty impressive flips during the scan, which was cool to see.

I just had mine done last week. I didn’t have a choice because of my age. My husband & I discussed how the results would effect us. For us we would just have more time to prepare.
