How do you mamas do it?

B

I'm a new micro-preemie mama. My baby girl was born on Cinco de Mayo at 25+6. She is now 2 weeks and doing well. I have a 2 and a half year old at home who is so clingy and still attached to my boob! But I'm okay with that! I'm struggling with being away from my newborn but also leaving my baby girl at home. This is so hard

Physically, emotionally, etc. I don't sleep. I'm trying to improve my milk supply and balance everything. How do you all do it?!

I can kind of relate because I have preemie twins that are separated right now. One is home, the other is in the NICU awaiting surgery. It’s definitely hard having one baby at home and one baby in the hospital, especially if you’re also working. What we do is swap. My husband drives to work, visits at the hospital, I stay home with our other baby and work from home. He comes home, he watches her, I go to the hospital. It doesn’t happen everyday bc it’s all very tiring, but it’s how we manage. Our NICU is also 24/7, so anytime I’m feeling down about not seeing her, I call for an update. One suggestion I want to add... it might be time to wean your two-year-old from your breast. It’s hard enough producing for one baby, let alone two when one isn’t there. Your NICU baby needs your breastmilk much more than your two-year-old. If you can produce for both, that’s amazing! But if not, you may want to prioritize who needs it more.
