My little May 13th baby! ☀️🌈 & birth story

Sarah

Made it to 41&2 before I was called in to be induced. Went in on the 11th and was started on cytotec since I was still closed, fast forward 4 hours & i’m only at one cm. I get another dose of cytotec and another four hours goes by and i’m only at 3cm. So that’s 8 hours going, i’m having consistent contractions every 3ish minutes so they go ahead and start me on pitocin. I was on pitocin approximately 5-7 hours (?) before i asked for an epidural. My contractions were getting closer together & extremely uncomfortable. The anesthesiologist student comes in with a CRNA and they begin the process of getting an epidural. At this point my husband and I don’t realize it’s a student doing my epidural so i’m stuck approximately 9 times and it’s taken forever. My contractions are about 30 seconds apart and excruciating and i’m bawling, so my husband asks for the CRNA to get my epidural in. She places it in seconds and I finally feel some relief by being able to sit up again. She has the student turn on my drip and everything’s going smoothly, until it wasn’t. My sons heart rate shoots to the 200-220s and isn’t fixing itself regardless of the position i’m in and my blood pressure is plummeting, i’m talking 80/40 consistently for about a half hour until the student realizes he gave me too much of an epidural dose & my epidural is numbing me up to my nipple line. So they turn off my epidural completely and monitor my son and I for another hour, having me change positions every 5-10 minutes because of his heart rate. About an hour into that my OBGYN comes in and tells me that if my sons heart rate doesn’t come down that we’ll have to do a c section which i was completely fine with as long as my son was going to be safe. and that he would monitor us for another 15 minutes to an hour. We reluctantly agree since we were okay with the c section, why wouldn’t we just start that process but less than 10 minutes later my OBGYN comes back in and tells us that we’re just going to do it now because he was getting uncomfortable with the numbers (understandable as we’re we) and we were so thankful. I’m not sure what time i was rolled to the OR but our sweet boy was born May 13th at 02:53 PM and our hearts couldn’t have been fuller. They got him out just in time too, as he was being evicted (lol) he shot meconium from all the stress he had been under so luckily that didn’t go into his lungs. For such an eventful birth, I don’t think i’m upset by how it all happened. yes, i wanted a natural birth with no epidural but things don’t go as planned. We’re just so blessed our baby was okay.
