Will I know labor is coming?

Question

39 weeks with our first baby. I feel completely normal. Will I know labor is getting ready to start (cramping, bleeding, etc.) or could labor possibly start out of nowhere (I feel normal now, but in an hour intense contractions could start)? Hope this question makes sense 😅

I was 39 weeks when labor started. I had actually been in the pre-labor stage all day but didn’t know it. My stomach was tightening off and on all day but I just figured it was Braxton Hicks. Nope lol. Started having “real” contractions that night.

For me I felt normal, nothing off leading up to it. The night I went into labor I had what felt like the Braxton Hicks I was getting throughout my pregnancy. The only difference was that they were getting consistent and not stopping. It wasn’t until hours after we went to the hospital and after my water broke that the contractions it painful. It didn’t happen quickly or out of the blue necessarily but I didn’t have any “symptoms” that indicated I’d be going into labor soon or anything. 
However, I do know mamas who recently had their second babes who’s labor was literally 1.5 hours from first contraction to baby being born. Another few who’s was only 3 hours. So it’s not impossible to labor and progress quickly, it’s more common after your first from what I’ve read.

Some people start off intense but I feel like most don’t. You’ll be able to measure time in between before they get too intense. I usually have spent multiple hours at home in labor before going to the hospital

I didnt. I had felt off a few days before but tried to tell myself i was just tired (but i warned my husband it would probably happen within the next 48 hours). Went to bed feeling fine and woke up to contractions and my water breaking less than 36 hours later

I’m the same! 39 weeks today and just sitting here tapping my fingers waiting for something to happen 🙈😂 
I feel like when I was a kid and I knew my brothers were hiding waiting to jump out and scare me but I had no idea when hahaha
