Mucus plug?

Just saw a bit of mucus plug today what does that mean exactly? Will I be expecting to be in labour in the next week?

It just depends on your body. I lost my mucus plug (no blood in it) with my first in the morning and I went into labor that evening.

Was it bloody? 
Mucus plug can regenerate...unfortunately. 
Been having pieces of mine come out for days. 
If it’s bloody then labor can be closer.

It can come out weeks ahead of time unfortunately. It only means your body is getting ready to loosen up down there and deliver. It doesn’t mean any specific timeline. Could be today, could be a month from now, it’s wildly irritating!
Same thing with dilation. Doc told me I was a 2 last week but I didn’t get excited, you can be a 2 for 3-4 weeks. 
Maybe someday they’ll have a way to know exactly when a baby is really coming! So many women jump at a chance for a scheduled induction or C-section now because it’s so nice to know when!
