Carseat screaming

Sarah

I have a 2.5 year old and a 6 week old. Every weekday I have to take the toddler to daycare which is about 25 minutes drive.

The problem is, the newborn HATES the car. If he’s asleep, he wakes up as soon as he’s in his car seat and screams. He screams the entire 25 minute drive there and back (we’re talking purple crying, covered in sweat, foamy slobber crying). Nothing I do calms him, he’s essentially “crying it out” for almost an hour.

I have no idea what to do in this situation. This child is in significant distress for almost an hour and it’s taking its toll on my mental health as well.

I’m concerned about having an infant so young “crying it out” and the emotional issues that could cause, as well as his breathing (he starts choking and occasionally will vomit).

There’s nothing wrong with him. He’s fed, dry, burped, etc. our toddler did the exact same thing until he was over a year old but with just one baby, we could just avoid going anywhere. That’s not an option anymore with two kids.

We’ve tried white noise, mirror, singing, having the toddler try to show him toys, open windows, covered up, different car seat, you name it, we’ve tried it. Fml.

I’m at a loss for what to do. I can’t do this everyday 😞
