How long would you wait TTC in a new job?

Back story.. I’m 30, have three beautiful kids. We’re hoping to add one final baby to our family, problem is I start a brand new job in a few weeks. I’m in Canada so I’ll have benefits either way, and likely take 18 months off. Should I work there a year to “prove myself”? I’m hoping to plant for a spring/summer baby if possible since my other kids were born in that season so that would mean TTC either 3-4 months after starting new job, or waiting a year.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I’m not sure if this is specific to your new job or Canada in general - how long is the probationary period? 
I’d say if I was already in the process of TTC when starting a new job, I wouldn’t stop just because of it (especially with benefits being a non-issue… wish that were the case in the US). But if we weren’t TTC already, I’d wait a little bit. Probably no more than 3 months though.

We didn’t wait. I started a new job and got a fixed term contract for a year and pregnant 4 months in. Bit of a risk that I won’t get an extension because of it, but we’ll see (which I won’t know because they won’t give that as the reason as that’s considered discrimination where im from). Haven’t told anyone yet btw.
When pregnant I’d probably wait telling at work until after the probation period, but I’d wait until (at least) the second trimester anyway if possible.

I would only wait if I needed to have worked for a certain time to get maternity leave.

I'd say do what's best for you and your family, if you stick to your plan of a hopeful spring or summer baby then you will be at work for almost a year anyways, so I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

Well I waited like maybe 2 to 3 months in lol. We weren't planning on trying until after my 6 month probationary period, but my boss was very pro kid, etc and was very cool with us trying immediately.

Do what you feel is appropriate.  Us? We don't delay our ttc for anyone.
