Anyone else give 6 week old baby prune juice?

My pediatrician said I can give her a ounce of prune juice mixed with a ounce of pedialyte once a day inbetween feedings for constipation so I did that today at 4pm since she hasnt pooped in 5 days and she had a major poop blowout but she is still acting like she is in pain and its almost impossible to soothe her im getting worried anyone else been in this situation what did u do? I'm starting to feel bad for giving it to her

No no no!! Don’t give a newborn anything but breastmilk/formula. That pedi is not right at all. And that is a lot to give. Newborns aren’t able to processes anything but milk.

Have u ever drank prune juice for constipation?! I’m asking because I have, and it gives terrible stomach cramps that lead to a bowel movement, so from my experience I would Not give it to a baby, especially at weeks old, because it likely will cause bad stomach cramps. I would use other methods to help with the issue.

I drink prune juice and goodness the cramps on me as an adult sometimes nearly throw me face first onto the floor. A baby that age will surely be uncomfortable. Are there no other options?
 Because your pediatrician recommended and ordered it, I would assume they know what they are doing and so can't tell you to so otherwise. But wouldn't hurt to ask for an alternative option if baby is upset. Babies that age normally only have either formula or breastmilk. They likely can't even process prune juice properly as their digestive system is not mature for it.

When my my daughter had it when she was little they told me to add 1 teaspoon of dark karo syrup in her bottle to help with constipation it helped her. I would double check with your pediatrician and ask if you can try it. My daughter will be 10 in august so was a long time ago lol

The prune juice AND Pedialyte may be too much for her tummy. A Dr in the NICU told me an oz of prune juice or pear juice with 2 or 3 oz of water OR 2 oz of clear Pedialyte.
