When you go to visit a museum do you expect there to be an admission fee or do you expect it to be free?

I check the website first to find out because I know that some are free and some charge for admission. To be clear, if it’s a big major museum (like a children’s museum or natural history) I expect to pay, but if it’s a smaller one then it could go either way.

I live in DC so unless I’m going to a Smithsonian I assume there will be a charge.
