How do you put your baby to sleep traveling? in a deeper travel crib? On the road? During day trips? Tips needed!!!
Hello! Right now we put our baby to sleep and he always demands that he holds our hands while dozing off. Sometimes, if he’s especially needy, or going through a leap, we have to lean over him and give him a hug on the crib to calm him down. That works ok at home because his crib is currently in the higher position and we always try to be at home for naps (or he just puts himself to sleep with a pacifier in the stroller if out, but we try to keep that to a minimum.) What do people do or suggest doing when we use the deeper travel crib (with the mattress on the floor) or even when we have to move the hight of his crib at home for normal naps due to his ability to crawl?
We’ve never traveled with him yet, but are looking to holiday in the summer or at least take day trips. I know we aren’t the only parents to have done this coddling and hand holding over the bed, so I just want to see what other people do. I’ve considered just cuddling him to sleep in a bed and then putting him in the crib, but all the articles about baby sleep always say to put a baby “awake, but drowsy in the crib” so they get used to self soothing there and putting themselves back to sleep at night. We aren’t really sleep training or anything like that, just slowly trying to back off of the rituals (coddling and butt pats) that we’ve used in the past to put him to sleep. We just personally don’t really want to sleep train, because of the studies about the negative impact that prolonged crying has on the baby brain. So respectfully, if anyone has any other ideas I would LOVE to hear them!!!
How do you handle naps when taking day trips or even traveling for longer periods? How do you handle nap times in a deeper crib? In the car on a roadtrip? Visits to other peoples homes? Please share your tricks and tips!!! I don’t really have a big network to ask, so all kind advice is welcome!!!
