Drunk phone arguments

Do you think it’s better to NOT have conversations over the phone with your partner while one is intoxicated? I just find whenever my partner is drinking, he might ring me at some point and then sometimes he will start talking about his family life (which is troubled) and he might say something that I disagree with, liiiike that he wants to fight his brother. And then once I start disagreeing, he starts getting irritated, we start arguing and then says things that really upsets me. Nothing mean, but still they’re things that really upset me. He at the time always excuses it saying drunk minds speak sober thoughts even though once we do force the conversation to end and get off the phone, he is quick to be apologetic over messages, because he has to actually think about what he’s typing, there’s a slower response time from me and therefore more time to reflect and think if it’s right.
