Potty Training - Stopped
Hi parents! Our PT story is interesting. Yesterday we started and had prepped for weeks. Our 23 month old was so “ready” to potty train - taking her clothes off and sitting on the toilet, talking about it, watching me go pee, etc. We did everything right - role playing, reading about it, sitting on it clothed, and watching videos online like Daniel tiger and Elmo.
Well yesterday morning she did okay. Half in half out. Naptime was a mess. She peed the crib twice but we didn’t make a big deal about it. Then afterwards since she didn’t nap, she freaked out, started wailing once the pee came out a little (she was withholding it) screamed “no mama” and peed a little on both ends and my husband. We couldn’t get her to stop crying, so my husband ran and got a diaper. The moment it touched her, she peed into it. The sense of relief she got from that diaper was huge. We then scrapped the PT weekend, went to play on the swings at the park, and got smoothies.
It doesn’t always work out like we plan. Sometimes our kids give us a false sense of “readiness” and that’s okay. If the worst thing I’ve done is overbuy undies and shorts, then I’m okay with that. We’ll donate it all to charity and call it a successful weekend.
Once that diaper got back on she went back to happily role playing with her stuffies and the potty chair. So time will help.
Hopefully this encourages some of your parents out there that it’s okay to “fail” or what society considers failing. ✌🏼We still think it was a good-ish day overall and she’s still learning about the process.
